Diabetes
Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which a person has high blood sugar because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the cells do not respond to it. Normally, after eating, food is broken down into glucose, which is the body’s major source of energy. To deliver glucose to the cells, insulin is made and released in the pancreas. The pancreas typically produces insulin automatically in response to the glucose level.
However, insulin resistance develops in the body’s cells or the pancreas produces little or no insulin in persons with diabetes.
Diabetes is also called Madhumegam in Siddha. It is further splits into 20 fractions. These are differentiated based on the doshas affected with four types of Vata madhumegam, six types of pitta madhumegam, and ten types of Kapha dosha.
